Exciting Weekend for Clarenville teams

2014 Provincial Champs

2014 Provincial Champs!!

Both Clarenville teams pictured above finshed first and second in the standings at the Pee Wee Provincial tournament.

What a great weekend of softball for Clarenville.  The Pee Wee provincial tournament, hosted right here in Clarenville, was a huge success.  After round robin play it was the two Clarenville teams finishing in first and second place. At the end of the tournament Clarenville team 2 were crowded provincial champions!!  Congratulations to all players and coaches on an exciting weekend and an exciting victory!!

Two Clarenville Squirt Teams compete in provincials in Carbonear

Also this weekend two Squirt division teams traveled to Carbonear to compete in provincial play as well.  Many tough games were played and although both teams did not make the playoff round there was some great play and sportsmanship displayed.  It was the first time competing in such a tournament for many of these players and so much potential was displayed.

We were very proud that we could have four teams competing in provincial tournaments this past weekend.  We certainly have a lot a lot to look forward to moving forward as an association.

Go Caribous!!

Exciting Times!

You may have already heard that Softball NL’s Pee Wee U14 slow pitch provincial tournament will be held right here in Clarenville!!  The tournament will take place from July 25th to the 27th! It is a very exciting opportunity for the Clarenville association to get the opportunity to host this event and have our players play in front of the home crowd.  More details will be forthcoming as the tournament gets closer.  Be sure to get out to support and cheer on the home team!

Also, on that same weekend our association will be sending two teams to Carbonear to compete in the Softball NL’s U12 provincial tournament.  As that weekend approaches more details will follow and as always check back for a full recap.

Both these events keep adding to a great summer with more of our players continuing to get the opportunity to play in competitive games.  Softball is alive and well in Clarenville!! Go Caribous Go!!

Great weekend for Mite Division in Carbonear

The Clarenville Minor Softball Mite division really got their season going on July 5th with a trip to Carbonear to compete in Softball NL’s "U10 Pepsi Ballistic Funtastic tournament”. Due to the highest registration numbers seen in years Clarenville was able to send two teams to this event to complete in 4 games each.

Clarenville Caribous Team One got the day going with a game against Conception Bay Central and suffered an 8 to 5 loss. Clarenville player Lucas Bryant had some great play in the outfield earning him player of the game honours. Next up for this team was another close 9 to 6 loss against a team from the Southern Shore.  The Caribous’ Kyle Spurrell had two big hits to the outfield and 4 RBIs winning him the player of the game. Their third game was the first lopsided score of the day when Clarenville went down to a very strong team from Placentia. Clarenville pitcher Jesse Mackey won the player of the game award. The final game of the day for this team was another close contest against Kelly’s Pond.  With the game tied heading into the last inning Kelly’s Pond squeaked out the win. Clarenville’s Jillian Pardy, who was consistent at bat all day and also made an amazing catch to hold off the opposing team, took home the well deserved player of the game.

Clarenville Caribous team two picked up two victories to start the day in the opening two contests against Conception Bay Central and Butlerville.  Clarenville player Emily Mullet won the player of the game award in the second game for her exceptional play.  This team suffered their first loss of the day when they faced Kelly’s Park. Clarenville did keep the game close and in the end lost by a score of 5 to 3 with Clarenville player John Park picking up the player of the game honour.  The final contest of the day for this Clarenville team was another victory over a team from Shea Heights.

All players receive medals before leaving to cap off a great day.  It was the first time for many of these young players playing softball in a competitive environment.  There certainly appears to be a great amount of potential throughout the Clarenville organization with seven of the eight games played that day ending in wins or close loses.  The event in Carbonear saw 16 teams from various regions competing throughout the weekend with the intention of giving many young players an opportunity to complete, learn, grow the game of softball and have fun.  As the Clarenville teams left the field with their heads held high and smiles on their faces it certainly appears to have been a huge success!!

Mite Division teams competing this weekend

On Saturday, July 5th our Mite division will have two teams traveling to Carbonear to compete in the Softball NL Pepsi U10 Mite Ballistic "FUNtastic" softball tournament in Carbonear.  Both Clarenville teams will compete in 4 games each against teams representing different communities and associations.  We are very excited to have teams from our town get out and compete in such an event. New Team Name and Logo Revealed

Above you will find our brand new team name and logo.  Look familiar? After some discussion it was decided to go with the name that is instantly identifiable with our town and engrained in its culture.  Local artist, Reilly Fitzgerald, the same artist who designed the logo for the Clarenville Caribous hockey team, also designed this new softball logo.  We can't wait for our players to hit the field this summer and start playing in some games so we can cheer them on!!  Go Caribous go!!  Play ball!!

Welcome aboard to Grant Ellis, Neil Peddle and Kyle Mackey! The three boys have been hired to work with our minor softball program this summer. Starting on June 30th you can expect to see the boys on the field assisting our coaches, directors and other adult volunteers with the facilitation of skill development and games.  We are excited to have the boys on board and are sure they will be a welcomed addition to our team!
